COVID 19 vaccination and myocarditis
- Posted on: Jun 28 2021
A rare side effect of COVID-19 vaccination is myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle and surrounding tissue. This is an extremely rare side effect and of the cases that have occurred, most cases have been mild and children have recovered on their own or with minimal treatment. THH Pediatrics strongly encourages everyone over 12 years old who is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated, since the benefits far outweigh the risks of being unvaccinated. We have attached the CDC ACIP statement on COVID-19 vaccination and myocarditis.
