Office Policies & FAQ
Missed Appointments & Cancellations
THH Pediatrics requires a 24-hour notice on all appointment cancellations. We do understand that unforeseen circumstances may occur, so please call if you have such an instance arise. However, we do reserve the right to charge a $50 fee for a missed appointment or for canceling an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, particularly if there is a pattern of missed appointments.
Parents Must Accompany Teens For Office Visits
At THH Pediatrics all children & adolescents under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for an office visit. A parent/guardian may designate another adult to bring their child for an office visit but said designation must be in writing. We will accept a note or a fax but cannot accept an email at the current time because it is not HIPPA compliant. Please keep in mind that it is customary to ask a parent/guardian to leave the exam room for a brief time during an adolescent physical to afford the teen some privacy. However, we ask that parents/guardians or their designee be present at the scheduled appointment time because a physician needs implied parental consent before the office visit can begin.
If your child has had a well child checkup within the last 12 months we would be happy to complete your childʼs school forms. If your child has not had a checkup within the past 12 months, please call to schedule a well child appointment. Keep in mind that we become inundated with forms particularly prior to the start of school in late August, and that we require extra staff time dedicated to completing the forms. In order to cover this extra time and expense, we do charge $10 per school form per child. In addition, we ask that you please allow 7 to 10 business days for the completion of the forms.
New Policy for School Forms – June 2011
THH pediatrics has been experiencing a large number of requests for same day completion of school forms. We have always tried our best to accommodate these requests because we do not want children/adolescents to miss school or the chance to participate in athletics. However, due to the increased volume of requests for expedited completion of school forms we have had difficulty keeping up. As such, our preference is for parents to plan ahead and allow 7-10 business days for completion of forms. However, THH has decided to continue to complete school forms in an expedited fashion but will now charge $20 per expedited form. Expedited forms will be completed in 24-48hrs. The fee for non-expedited forms will remain $10 and be completed in 7-10 business days.
How Do I Obtain A Referral To A Specialist?
Some insurance plans require a referral to a specialist. In order for one of our pediatricians to approve a specialist visit, the patient must have been seen for the relevant medical condition in the recent past. If a THH pediatrician has recommended your child to see a specialist, the first step is to make the specialist appointment. After you have made the specialist appointment please call our office at (301) 540-0811, select option 4, and leave the following information:
- Parentʼs full name and daytime phone number
- Childʼs full name
- Childʼs Insurance
- Specialist full name, address, phone and fax number
- THH pediatrician who recommended the referral
- Date of specialist appointment
Please allow a minimum of 3 business days for completion of the referral.
What Is Your Office Policy On Immunizations?
As a practice, we are strong proponents of childhood immunizations and fully endorse and comply with the recommendations set forth by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). THH Pediatrics recognizes that immunizations prevent life-threatening illnesses and that under-immunizing puts children at unnecessary risk.
Office Policy On Rx For Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs) Reimbursement Of Non-Rx Medicines
In 2011 new rules governing Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs) require a prescription for non-prescription medicines (like Tylenol or Motrin) for the purpose of reimbursement under the plans. We are happy to write a prescription for reimbursement of appropriate non-prescription medicines during an office visit. However, due to the volume of inquiries, we are not able to honor these requests outside of an office visit.
